Since September, I’ve been working remotely as a social media and marketing intern for Lakes and Grapes. I live in the Metro Detroit area (about 4 hours away from our Traverse City headquarters). I am also working on my Masters of Science in Marketing from Walsh College remotely, so as you can imagine, I spend a lot of time sitting at my desk on my computer.
8:15 a.m. - Wake up, chug water, make coffee, do my skincare routine, eat breakfast, turn on whatever I’m binging on Netflix at the moment, check my emails and do some engagement on our Instagram account (with that being said, if you’re not following us on Instagram...why?). Since I do everything from home, I am thankful that my schedule is flexible and I can have slow mornings.
9:15 a.m.- I like to workout in the morning since I spend so much time sitting and staring at screens. Today I did a leg strength training workout from Whitney Simmons.
10:30 a.m. - After taking a shower and getting dressed, I’m ready to “start” my day. Today I had an 11 a.m. FaceTime meeting with Abby and Brooke (the other L&G intern). We have meetings at least twice a week where we talk through everything we need to get done for the week. I wish that I could be in the store with them, but I love being able to have our virtual meetings.
After our meeting, I get to work on the to-do list that Abby makes me each week.
A few of the things I did today include:
- Writing a blog post
- Creating Instagram stories
- Writing a social post caption
- Working on updating product copy on our website
- Doing some research
I spend quite a few hours just sitting at my desk working on all of these things. Somewhere in here, I eat some lunch, too. One of my favorite things to do is make Instagram stories. I love being able to create something and then see it posted on our Instagram. Honestly, I enjoy everything that I get to do.
While it gets pretty boring sitting at my desk all day, I try to make the best of it by always having a candle lit, a playlist or podcast playing, a fake fireplace burning on YouTube (creates such a cozy vibe), and I almost always have a latte or an iced coffee next to me.
3:30 p.m.- Around this time, I like to go for a little walk outside before I switch from my Lakes and Grapes work, to my school work. I have class over Zoom tonight and, I have some articles to read and some PowerPoints to go over. I also have to write a discussion post.
5 p.m. - At five, I shut my laptop and head to the kitchen to make some dinner.
6 - 8 p.m. - Time for Zoom University! I spend two-hours in my Consumer Insights class.
8 p.m. - My favorite part of the day, I do my nighttime skincare routine, put on my pajamas and pour myself a glass of wine, and head to my couch to watch something on TV. I usually end my Lakes and Grapes work for the day by doing more engagement on our Instagram.
10 p.m. - Around 10, I head to my room and get cozy in bed to read a few chapters of my book before going to sleep to wake up for another day!
Being a remote intern isn’t something I ever thought I would be, but it has been such a great experience. When the pandemic hit, I was concerned about if I would find an internship. Thankfully, I found this opportunity that I am so grateful for. It is great to work with some great women and for a brand that I resonate with.
